Dr. habil. Halyna Ilina is an Associate Professor at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. In 2007 she was a holder of the Grant of the President of Ukraine for Gifted Youth. In 2010 she obtained her PHD in Philosophy with thesis Self-Identity in Human Life. In 2019 she obtained habilitation from Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv with thesis entitled Visual Thinking in the History of Philosophy. Since 2018 she is an Associate Professor in the Department of the History of Philosophy at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, where she develops a project Digital History of Philosophy, participates in Ukrainian translation of classical philosophical texts and teaches such courses as Medieval and Renaissance Philosophy, Modern Philosophy, Ukrainian Studies, Major Philosophical Movements of 19-21 century, Historical and Philosophical Cases of Visual Theories, and others. She is an author of the monograph Genesis of the Culture of Thinking: Logos, Ratio, Visio (2018), she authored and co-authored over 100 publications, including five books’ chapters, textbooks, teaching materials and articles published in Ukrainian and international journals.

Current Project:

Transforming Humanities in Independent Ukraine: A Case of Philosophy

A project aims to describe the path of humanities transformations in Ukraine since 1991 till nowadays by discovering the changes in academic philosophical discourses in their connection to important historical events. Humanities plays a vital role in changing societies. Ukrainian philosophy as a part of humanities during last thirty years was responsible for the deconstruction of Soviet ideological narratives, the rise of Ukrainian identity studies, the rethinking of Western philosophical canon, and the development of new philosophical language. The structure of a research is based on four turns in the history of independent Ukraine and their reflection in humanities. The first one describes post-soviet philosophical discussions from 1991 till 2004. The second one reveals the main processes that influenced humanities between two revolutions – the Orange Revolution of 2004 and the Revolution of Dignity of 2013-2014. The third explains the challenges of humanities in the war times from 2014 till 2022. The fourth gives a general overview of the Ukrainian academic culture in turbulent times after the Russian military invasion of Ukraine after 24^th of February 2022.
