10 Years of War in Europe: Russian Threat to the European Union and Austria

The Research Center for the History of Transformations in cooperation with the Disinfo Resilience Network Vienna and the co-initiator Boryslav Ostretsov invites you to a critical discussion on the rising threat of Russia's expansionist policy and its implications for Europe and Austria.

A panel of experts will be examining Russia's expansionist ideology and its increasing threat to European stability, with a particular emphasis on Ukraine and Austria's strategic position in a potential global conflict followed by a discussion centering on:

  • The historical and current dynamics of Russia’s expansionist ambitions.
  • The implications of a current global cyber war in Europe.
  • Austria's geopolitical role and its potential impact in the event of escalating conflict.

The keynote lecture "Russia, the War, and Disinformation: Perspectives from Migration Studies" will be held by Jannis Panagiotidis, RECET's Scientific Director.

The panel will be moderated by Alexander Schneidmesser (RECET). Panelists will include the historian of Ukraine, Russia, and East Central Europe Dr. Fabian Baumann (University of Heidelberg), a specialist in illiberal political legitimation, minority mobilization, and digital authoritarianism Liliia Sablina (CEU), Professor of Russian History Wolfgang Mueller (University of Vienna), Head of the University Institute for Security Research and Crisis Management Dr. Cornelius Granig (Sigmund Freud Private University) and David Stögmüller (Member of the Austrian Parliament, Green Party Spokesperson for Defence).
